| An artistic documentary illustration of a Lagos slum- This body of work throws light on ‘makoko’ a slum located on the outskirts of Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos state
The dwellers are mostly farmers and fishermen from Ilaje , they earn their living through fishing and smelting of log of woods for charcoal sales; their children rarely go to school. Their houses are mainly of wood and they lack clean water, adequate toilet facilities and electricity…
One may now ask whether this is their natural way of habitation or depravity?
One answer could be:
*HABITUAL; considering the fact that the dwellers are mostly fishermen and need to live within their working environment AND as such it may be too cumbersome for the government to provide the basic infrastructure that will improve or enhance their living condition in the area they dwell . |
